Intech Visit

Posted by Tony on December 1, 2011

For our first meeting after half term we headed up to Intech planetarium for an evening amongst the stars. It was bit of a coincidence as the 14th Pack had had exactly the same idea, so between the two Packs we made up half the groups there on the night.  We spent the first part of the night completing activities towards our astronomers’ badges. Cubs made moon flick books, learnt about the constellations, made an orrery (which shows how the planets and moons move in orbit). After a short go on the museum attractions we were whisked into the planetarium for a live show where the cubs heard the story of the great bear and how to use the constellations to find north. We were taken on a journey across our solar system and even outside our galaxy towards the edge of the universe.

All in all it was a great night and after a follow up the next week we have a pack full of astronomers.

The planetarium isn’t running any more badge nights until summer next year more info on the nights can be found at http://www.intech-uk.com/folders/groups/youth_groups/ Its well worth the trip as the Cubs loved it, in fact one mum told us that she’d had to gently ask her son to stop talking about planets and galaxies later that night so he could get some sleep!
