Grey Owl’s Report

Posted by Tony on December 1, 2011

As usual the Beaver Scouts have been running around and keeping busy.

November 12th saw many of the Colonies at the County Day in Paultons Park and a visit to Father Christmas. The weather was fine and much fun was had by all.

On November 13th I attended the Remembrance service at St Peters Church in Maybush. The 13th Group, all sections, were there in force and looking very smart, a real credit to the District. I know that other Colonies also attended their local church for services. Well done to you all.

The Beaver Leader Council on the 14th covered a lot of ground, including preparing for our annual Christingle Service at St James Church, Shirley.

This will be held on Sunday 4th December at 4.00pm. ALL are welcome to attend.

Congratulations to the 9 Beaver Scouts from 7th, 14th and 22nd Colonies who took part in the Swimming Gala. It was great to see you all enjoying it.

Sunday November 27th was a busy day. In the morning I had great pleasure to attend the unveiling of a Beaver Sculpture at Lyons Copse to celebrate 25 years of Beaver Scouting. The sculpture has been carved from a large log and is in the form of a beaver lodge with beavers looking out from it, it is also a seat for all to enjoy and as Teresa Ginn, ACC Beaver Scouts said “A place to think and reflect”.

During the afternoon a party of 210 Beavers, Cubs and Leaders took over the Nuffield Theatre to see their Christmas show which this year was “The Borrowers”, a classic story of tiny people who live under the floorboards, they own nothing but “borrow” everything from the “human beans” who live above their heads. Our young people were a credit to us, enjoying the show and being fascinated by the special effects and puppetry involved. Thank you to all the Leaders who supported Pat and I in promoting this show.
