Cub Corner
Hi all
Firstly from everyone in the Cub Section very many congratulations to Thelma and Nigel on their recent tying of the knot. They both scrubbed up very nicely, the bride looked radiant and the groom looked like the cat who’d got the cream! We wish you both many happy years.
Right, down to business. Did you think that because there was no report from the Cub Section last month that we had been sitting on our Laurels doing nothing? Far from it!
Having recovered from a hectic but tremendously successful Survival Camp we held our Scrapheap Challenge at the beginning of October. There being no County competition this year, we scaled down the size of ‘scrap’ but the teams still managed to come up with some amazing models. The District trophy this year went to the 11th but well done to all Packs who took part. My thanks to Patsy and George for all their help, and to the 13th for the use of their HQ. There then followed our chess evening where Cubs of any ability came along and enjoyed playing against other Cubs picking up some tips along the way. A good evening and my thanks to Shaun and Neil (14th) for their help with this, and to the 11th for the use of their HQ.
In November the ever popular swimming gala was held at The Quays. A very good evening that ran very smoothly but I think we all came away a few pounds lighter and not just because of the raffle! It was a tad warm on the poolside. Another highlight of November is the Panto at The Nuffield where once again the Cubs will be joining with the Beaver Section to go along and watch The Borrowers. My thanks to Lin Johnson for organising this once again, and getting us such a good deal.
Our final event for this term and 2011 is our annual Carol Service which this year is being held at Avenue St Andrews Church, The Avenue on Tuesday 6th December starting at 6.30 pm and a warm welcome is extended to all members of the District to attend. This year I am able to sit back and relax as the service has been organised and is being run by Laura (13th) together with Chris Davis and this year we are supporting the Christmas Complete appeal for SCRATCH where every Cub has been asked to bring along a gift which will then be given to children in the area who otherwise are unlikely to receive presents at Christmas.
Patsy and I continue to visit Packs to present Silver Awards and have recently been to the 11th and 2nd and will be at the 22nd at the end of the month so look out for City District on the next Roll of Honour.
I take this opportunity to thank everyone for their help and support throughout 2011 and to wish you and your families a very Merry Christmas and a Happy and Peaceful New Year.
Pat Rea
